Anyway, here’s a lottery goal for me: my own island with only helicopter and boat access to people can leave me alone.
I have found my aesthetic, and it’s Ontario cottage style.
Seriously, what does a man need more than this?
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! If I won one of the big lotteries, I’d buy the hell out of this. Alas, I must work for the rest of my life.

Looks like the sort of place that would be nice to spend a week relaxing, but for me, I’m pretty sure I’d get bored and feel cut off. A private island does sound good, just for the sake of being able to say I own a private island though.

Island: $600,000
Helicopter and maintenance to reach island: $6,000,000

Try a boat.

That's not too bad, although you won't have money leftover for the helicopter.

I've done it before. It's quite pleasant.

Use a boat instead.

So only slightly less expensive to maintain than a helicopter.

Would a sea plane be better?

At least the wings won’t be moving faster than the fuselage to fly, which cuts down on the complexity.

That’s pretty fantastic.
If I won the lottery that sort of place would be my holiday/hideaway from everyone else.
Unfortunately, that sort of money would get me a house on the side of a lake where I am, a ruddy big house, but still, only on the side of a lake.

You could always move to Canada in the process!

But if you don’t have anyone to share it with, who’d you need to get away from?

The people who keep coming to my door asking me for work help when I'm on my time off.

You should probably talk to your boss about that. I mean, calling you on your work phone is one thing, but coming to your door? That seems like a serious violation of work ethics/work rights/whatever you want to call it.

My work truck is frequently parked in my driveway. I can’t blame people for doing it, but we have a phone number.

In that case, I’d think about hanging up a note on my front door.

Unfortunately, due to who my employer is, I’m a little bit contractually obliged to be helpful, even when not working.

I’d pay that for a Whaler. Gas was expensive growing up (42 kilometre round trip with some trips inbetween , $175 in gas).

I lived on an island once. Boat access only. Commuted into the Big Smoke each day. Lasted about 18 months...
These days our 'island' is a 100 acres of trees in a sea of farmland.

I’d probably only go up for a few weeks at a time. Keep it as a cottage, and have a home in Ottawa. If I won the lottery, which I won’t.

I do quite like Newfoundland and Labrador, Saskatchewan or British Columbia.

Never been to Newfoundland, but I hear good things about it (not so much Labrador).
Saskatchewan I’ve learned to love. I can see me spending the rest of my career out here.
British Columbia is rad but damn expensive in the major centres.

I like the north east for it’s historical element, I even know how to say Newfoundland correctly, Lol.
Saskatchewan for it’s open expanse (completely opposite to where I live now) .
Cumbria
BC because it’s more like home, weather and terrain wise . But all the way on the other side of Canada.

I recently learned I have family who live in Alaska. They’ve got multiple homes up there that are only reachable via float plane. Apparently it’s a somewhat common life style in the area.

Hot damn. There was a tiny island in a lake for sale with a cabin on it about an hour west of Prince George. A couple friends and I genuinely considered buying it, but didn’t.
